50th Anniversary Handbell Celebration: Sunday, May 19

You are invited to a joyous celebration of handbells and worship this Sunday, May 19 as First Presbyterian Church (FPC) of Tacoma celebrates the 50th anniversary of its handbell program, founded by Bob Gorham. A special anniversary bell choir featuring ringers past and present will lead worship supplemented by brass, pipe organ, piano, and Chancel Choir in a special service you won’t want to miss. The handbell ringers will perform three specially commissioned pieces, “There is a Balm in Gilead,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” and the official premiere of a dramatic new setting of “Come, Christians Join to Sing” written by nationally acclaimed composer and arranger Joel Raney, featuring handbells, brass, pipe organ, piano, and Chancel Choir. This new piece was commissioned just for this special celebration. Additional new arrangements of hymns will be supplied by FPC’s own Minister of Worship Dr. Daniel Perrin. The handbell choir will be directed by Daniel Heath and director emeritus Bob Gorham. You won’t want to miss this exciting service, starting at 10:30 am! For a taste of what to expect, watch last year’s performance of “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” by our Lindsey Bell Choir.
