Word Study Tools

This Sunday (October 7), the FPC Library will be displaying our Bible word study tools. In his sermon on Sunday, Pastor Eric will show us how he uses word study tools while engaging with the Bible. After the service, you can stop by and pick up some tools to use for yourself!

You can find our word study tools listed in our online catalog here. We have wide range of resources including concordances, dictionaries, and interlinear Bibles. Of specific interest relating to our current sermon series on Philippians would be our Greek-English dictionaries and interlinear Bible. A great online word study resource is the Blue Letter Bible, which you can find here.

The FPC Library is located in Fellowship Hall and open before and after the service on Sunday mornings. You can contact us through email here.

FPC Canon: The Days of Elijah

Last Sunday during worship we sang “The Days of Elijah.” This song is on the list of the FPC Canon. It has a special meaning for FPC Tacoma, because it became a theme song for our “Year of Jubilee” a few years ago when our congregation was seeking God’s grace to heal from some hard things that had taken place in our midst. If you want to dig deeper, you can read the thoughts of the composer who wrote the song or you can explore the Biblical characters described in the song. And if you want to experience the song in a new way, watch the embedded playlist below to see it being joyfully sung by U.S. Marines, youth from Uganda, and liturgical dancers on the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem.

Introducing the FPC Canon

Earlier this year, Pastor Eric asked our Worship Committee to come up with an “FPC Canon”—a select list of  hymns and praise songs that are especially meaningful to the FPC community. After receiving more than 100 nominations from the congregation earlier this year, FPC’s Worship Committee came up with a list of 26 hymns and praise songs. Now you can explore the complete list on the new FPC Canon web page  We also encourage you to listen to these songs during the week and use them in your own worship. Then they will have an even deeper meaning when you sing them in worship at FPC. These aren’t the only songs we will be singing during worship, but they are songs that for various reasons have meaning for our particular community. You can also start exploring the songs by using the YouTube playlist below. And stay tuned for future blog posts about specific songs on the list.

Rev. Earl Palmer to Preach on Sept. 16

Renowned speaker and author the Rev. Earl Palmer will be joining us Sunday, Sept. 16 at the 10:30 am service to deliver a special message titled “Two Virtues of Grace,” based on Matthew 11:28-30.

Take the Transformational Discipleship Assessment (TDA)!

Do you want to mature as a believer? Take the Transformational Discipleship Assessment (TDA) this month to discover which attributes of discipleship could use some attention in your life.

The TDA is an online, anonymous assessment that takes about 15 minutes. Once completed, you will receive immediate feedback with recommendations regarding eight attributes of discipleship that consistently show up in the life of a maturing believer. The church leadership will see anonymous results on the strengths and weaknesses of the congregation as a whole, which will help guide our planning over the next year. This will allow us to both better use our strengths and to equip and build up where most needed.

We hope all of our FPC Tacoma’s members and regular attenders (high school age and up) will take the TDA. There’s a lot more coming this fall than just school, football and soup!

It’s easy to get started:
• Under the User Registration heading, please type in the passcode (kxzlmqfr7p) and click SUBMIT.
• From there, you will register an email address and create a password. You will use this to log in going forward.
•  On the My Assessment screen, please click the green “start here” box to begin the survey.

We will assist anyone who doesn’t have access to the Internet. Let us know if you need help or have questions! Come to the TDA table in Fellowship Hall or contact the church office at 253-272-3286.
