Christmas Eve Service Tonight–Join Us for Carols and Candles

You are invited to join us TONIGHT for our annual Christmas Eve candle-lighting service at First Presbyterian Church of Tacoma. Experience the true meaning of Christmas through Bible readings and carols accompanied by choir, handbells, praise band, soloists, instrumentalists, and a pipe organ with more than 3,000 pipes. Plus experience our cathedral-like sanctuary lit up by hundreds of candles. A Tacoma-area tradition! The service starts at 7:00 pm. But come early…. the Sanctuary fills up fast!

Reformation Sunday 2018: A Mighty Fortress

On Reformation Sunday (Oct. 28), FPC’s Lindsey Bells (under the direction of Daniel Heath) presented Joel Raney’s  magnificent arrangement of Martin Luther’s hymn, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” one of the songs in the FPC Canon. The Lindsey Bells were joined by brass, piano, pipe organ, and FPC’s Chancel Choir (under the direction of Minister of Worship Dr. Daniel Perrin). If you missed this past Sunday (or if you want to experience the song again!), you can now watch the presentation on YouTube thanks to FPC member Chip Van Gilder.

Watch FPC’s Lindsey Bell Choir Perform “I Sing the Mighty Power of God”!

Watch and listen as our wonderful Lindsey Bell Choir performs an awe-inspiring version of “I Sing the Mighty Power of God” during our worship service on March 4. The youth bell choir was directed by Daniel Heath and accompanied by Patrice Barnett on the organ and Taylor Gonzales on the piano. Many thanks to Chip Van Gilder for videotaping the performance. You can also watch them perform “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” earlier in the service. If you need a pick-up to your day, you will want to watch and listen! And plan to attend our Easter Sunday celebration in a few weeks, where you will get to hear the Lindsey Bells again along with a symphonic band, our praise team, our chancel choir, and our pipe organ.

Can You Hear the Bells? Start of a New Bell Choir Year

It’s that time of year again! School is almost starting, Kick-Off Sunday is approaching, and our youth bell choirs begin soon!

This year we are planning to have both a Chapel Bell Choir and a Lindsey Bell Choir. Chapel Bells is a beginning bell choir for grades 5 – 8. Lindsey Bells is a more advanced choir for grades 9 and up. Musical experience is not necessary when joining either bell choir, though it can only help. Our Bell Choir Director, Daniel Heath, says that all you need is two hands and the ability to count to four.

Chapel Bells meet from  7-8 pm on Wednesday nights in Middleton Parlor (Room 109 on the church map).
Lindsey Bells meet from  6-7 pm on Wednesday nights also in Middleton Parlor.

Daniel Heath will be at the bell table in Stone Hall (aka Fellowship Hall) on Kickoff Sunday (September 11).  He will have information and sign up sheets for all who are interested.

He is also planning to be at the youth group kick-off potluck later that day to speak about the bell choir.

Our first day of bell choir practice this year is on  September 14.  We hope to see you there!

Any other questions that desperately need answering before September 11th? Contact Daniel Heath or Sonja West.
