One More Week for Easter Books!

This Sunday (March 25), Palm Sunday, is your last chance to pick up books on Easter and Good Friday before Easter! The Library will be closed on Easter Sunday (April 1), so make sure to stop by this Sunday, so you don’t miss out.

You can take a look at our books about Easter and Good Friday in our online catalog here. If you already looked there last week be sure to check again because we have added some books to that collection. We have many books (and DVDs) for adults, children, and families dealing with different aspects of Easter and Good Friday and why they are so significant. Make sure to stop by the library on Sunday and see all the books!

We also have two copies of the book When God Weeps by Joni Eareckson Tada and Steven Estes available for checkout. If you were in church last Sunday, you may remember Elder Dan O’Connor‘s moving prayer which involved reading a selection of this book out loud. If you are interested in the rest of the book, you can check it out this Sunday!

The FPC Library is open before and after the service on Sunday mornings. You can contact us by sending us an email here!

Good Friday Open House: Come, See, and Renew

Sometimes it’s very hard to hear God. There are so many things going on around us in the world at large and in our own lives that God’s voice gets crowded out. If you are feeling stressed or depleted, or if you are finding it hard to hear God with all the noise in our culture, you are invited to spend part of Good Friday (March 30) in our cathedral-like Sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church, Tacoma. Drop in for a few moments or a few hours. Let yourself unwind as you seek to listen to God or you simply let yourself be calm and quiet for a time. Our Sanctuary will be open from 5:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be times of quiet, times of music from a variety of local performers, and times for readings. Enter into the presence of God in preparation for our Good Friday communion service at 7:00 pm followed by our Easter Sunday celebration at 10:30 am on April 1st.

Easter Books in the Library!

It’s almost time for Easter! This Sunday (March 18), the FPC Library will begin displaying our books for Easter and the Resurrection! These books will only be displayed this week and next week, so make sure to stop by and take a look!

We have books and DVDs for adults, children, and families! All our Easter books for children as well as some of our Easter DVDs and books for adults can be found in our online catalog here. When they are not being displayed, our adult books on Easter can be found in the Non-Fiction section under the number 263.93  and our children’s books on Easter can be found in our Children’s section under the heading Easter.

The FPC Library is open before and after the service on Sunday mornings. Contact us by email here.

“Our Songs” at FPC Tacoma

FPC’s Worship Committee is seeking your favorite hymns and praise songs for use during worship throughout the year. E-mail your nominations to jwest@fpctacoma.org. Feel free to briefly explain why you find the song(s) meaningful and why you think they would be great to include as part of our worship as a community.

Come and See: Good Friday Open House at First Presbyterian Church

On Good Friday (March 30), come as you are into the gracious space of our cathedral-like Sanctuary at Tacoma’s First Presbyterian Church. Come for a few minutes or stay as long as you like. Come to see the historic architecture or spend a few quiet moments of meditation, prayer, and worship. A variety of local performers will be sharing throughout the day. Come and go anytime during the day—from 5:00 am–4:00 pm.

Books on Missions!

This Sunday, March 11, the FPC Library will be displaying our books on missions and missionaries! We have many fascinating stories of great Christian missionaries and their ministries.

These books are not yet in our online catalog, so you have to stop by on Sunday and browse them in person. When these books are not being displayed they can be found in our non-fiction section under the number 266. We are continually working on getting all our non-fiction catalogued into our online system. However, our other books and materials (including all our fiction, biographies, children’s and youth books, and DVDs) are available to be browsed in our online catalog here.
